The West Louisville Chess Club was founded by the Louisville Urban League ( in May 2016. The Louisville Urban League appointed Corbin Seavers, owner of HFS Chess Marketing, as the Club's senior coach and recruiter.

Team Bloom and Engelhard tied for fourth place. Highland Park earned third place. Kuumba Youth Liberation Academy came in a strong second and the West Louisville Chess Club took first! Last year Team Bloom won the League Team Championship trophy! This year it appears as if the West Louisville Chess Club and Kuumba is going to give Team Bloom a real run for their money. Repeat? We will see if Team Bloom's Andrew, Sofia and Charlie are up to the challenge. At the September 16 tournament four students earned a perfect score: Rodney, Saleem, Oliver and Samar. They each earned a five dollar Game Stop gift card. Charlie won a gift card for submitting a correctly recorded game.

The Metro Louisville Chess Association (LMCA)

Our  vision has expanded! Grown bigger and better!! The LMCA has an office on Millers Lane. Out of that central office, we manage three major chess clubs...The West Louisville Chess Club, the Portland Chess Club and the Newburg Chess Club. More on that will be available at our scheduled West Louisville Chess Club meetings.

At present, the LMCA's office needs donated furniture and supplies:

*sofas (2)

*rectangular tables and chairs

*pens, pencils, writing tables

*used chess books

*book shelves

*Motivational posters

*white paint

*brooms and mops and mop buckets

Our three chess clubs need donated chess equipment and other supplies:

*Kroger gift cards and pizza gift cards

*Financial donations for travel to the Queen City Classic and other regional tournaments

More important we need coaches for each chess club. Contact if you are interested. Every coach must go through our training program held at MLCA's Miller Lane office (usually on Saturdays). Tuition is charged.

Our founding meeting for the Portland Chess Club is October 21 and November 4 at the Portland branch library, 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. At that time we outline how the club operates, introduce the club's senior coach and the club's tournament schedule.
